Killington Resort: “The Beast of the East” does summer in a big way!
If you like action and adventure, you could spend your entire vacation at the Killington Resort Adventure Center. Off the mountain
OK, sure, there’s a lot to do at Killington Resort itself, but there’s even more to do if you venture a little further afield – which we highly recommend! Any drive in this part of Vermont is a scenic one, and there are destinations and attractions a little off the beaten path that are well worth the effort. Here are a few Vermont summer favorites.
Hiking
Vermont’s mountains are great for hiking, and the Killington area has lots of options. Some favorites:

Thundering Brook Falls Trail – this short, fun & wheelchair accessible trail is great for hikers of all abilities and ages – with a bonus of a waterfall at the end of the trail!

Gifford Woods State Park – located at the base of Killington and Pico peaks, Gifford Woods State Park includes one the few remaining old-growth hardwood tree stands in Vermont. Popular with through and day hikers alike, Gifford Woods offers a variety of easy to moderate hiking trails, as well as more challenging trails that take you to the Appalachian Trail. Camping, picnicking and fishing are also possible.

Deer Leap Overlook Trail – This dog and kid friendly moderate 1.9 mile trail is known for offering a variety of wildflowers along the way to a spectacular mountain vista at the top.
Other notable hiking opportunities nearby include Coolidge State Park (offers a variety of trails), Sherburne Pass Trail to Pico Peak (a more challenging climb), and Killington Peak Loop (moderate). Biking
In addition to Killington’s downhill mountain bike park, the Killington valley is home to loads of great mountain and road cycling options. You can bring your own bike or rent one from a local shop.
Road Biking:
There’s arguably no better way to take in the wide variety of scenery and landscapes in the Killington, Vermont area than to ride a bike along the roadways! Whether you’re looking for mountain vistas or farmland, you’re sure to find a beautiful view around every corner. Mountain Biking:
Pine Hill Park – 300 acre park with 16 miles of single track trails in nearby Rutland, VT
Green Mountain Trails – located 8 miles north of Killington on Route 100, Green Mountain Trails offers 25 miles of varied terrain for biking, hiking, walking, running, and during the winter, snowshoeing.
Sherburne Trails – Multi-use beginner and intermediate terrain. One intermediate trail goes out to a pond in the Green Mountain National Forest.

Golf
There are a LOT of golf courses to choose from in Vermont! In addition to the Killington Resort golf course, other area courses include the Green Mountain National Golf Course, Rutland Country Club, The Quechee Club Lakeland & Highland Courses, Fox Run Golf Club, Woodstock Country Club, and Neshobe Golf Club.
